As I grow older, some of my friends are discussing their retirement. The common thread in every plan is a move.
No one is talking about staying where they are right now.
Their eyes light up when they describe where they want to live. They say that they can't wait.
I'm glad that they are looking forward to it. But, I'm also sad that they won't enjoy their new lifestyle until they're older and retired.
Seems messed up to me. Waiting until your 60s or 70s to love where you live?
I used to think that way too. I assumed that I had to work my tail off in my career for decades until I finally retired. Then — and only then — could I move out of the city and go somewhere delightful to spend the rest of my days.
It’s a little strange when you think about it, especially in this modern world of flexible online jobs. Why shouldn’t we create a career that lets us live where we want during the prime of our lives?
