I think that this also has to do with your environment and where you came from. Do you have something to prove to the World or just to yourself? I went to a competitive public school in NJ and then to an Ivy League college. I ended up going to Hawaii after graduation for many years. I remember several people who were just happy with their lives and kept reminding me to "stop and smell the flowers." That philosophy has stayed with me throughout my roller coaster of a career.

Totally agree! I grew up around people who were happy to go fishing and relax on the weekends. Then I moved to Silicon Valley where everyone works 24x7 and the simple pleasures in life are put off. Sounds like your experience in Hawaii helped ground you!
