Reconnect with old friends and colleagues
Continuing the networking theme for this month, I want you to consider your existing network. These are your colleagues, friends, and other acquaintances from all of the past years of your life.
When was the last time you talked with the folks in your network? How often do you catch up over Zoom? Do you socialize with people on a personal level, or do you try to leverage them like tools?
Pro tip: You shouldn’t only reach out to people when you need them for something. That happens to me, and it doesn’t feel good. A friend tweeted this week that he will start blocking people who only ask him for favors.
You can’t just tap into people when you want to use them for an intro or a job. No one likes that.
But, a stale network is a weak network. So, how can you keep it fresh and be a decent human being?
